Governor Larry Hogan at Port of Leonardtown Winery

It was an exciting busy afternoon at the winery when Maryland Governor Larry Hogan stopped by for about an hour, arriving to a packed house in the late afternoon.  The Governor was doing 3-day tour of Southern Maryland, and we were very happy to have him visit!  Most of the Staff and representatives of the Southern Maryland Wine Grower's Cooperative (SMWGC) were on hand to welcome him & First Lady Yumi, his delegation, local government officials, and fellow Southern Marylanders.  Governor Hogan met with POL Winery General Manager and SMWGC President Charlie Murphy who gave him a quick tour of the winery and a history of SMWGC and the winery.  Governor Hogan stayed an hour to visit in spite of his rushed schedule, and talked with just about everyone who attended.  It is also rumored that the First Lady enjoyed our wines!  Throughout the tour, official announcements were made addressing major transportation projects to benefit motorists in Southern Maryland.  We're so pleased the Governor included us in his three day tour of Southern Maryland!

Artist Michele A. Steiger Displays her Art in our Tasting Room

Michele A. Steiger

Artist

Michele A. Steiger is a realist painter, who works primarily in oils and pastels.  Her inspiration is drawn from the rural scenes of Southern Mayland, Virginia, and the beach and marsh areas of the New Jersey shore.  Her travels are her main influence for her art.  Michele often spends long hours camera in hand, photographing scenery.  She wants to show the beauty of nature in the oft-overlooked, vibrant details of everyday scenes.

One private collector has said each painting and pastel tells a story, like opening a book.  Another said her windows create an illusion that invite the viewer behind the curtains through the windows.  Michele's architectural paintings have been compared to Edward Hopper, but more uplifting.

Her work is frequently on display at various art shows, galleries, and stores in the Southern Maryland area.  Michele is often commissioned to paint landscapes, historic buildings and private homes.
